History

At the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Institute of Physical Chemistry—Faculty of Sciences, and 85th anniversary of teaching physical chemistry at the University of Belgrade, held in December, 1988 at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, which was attended by more than 400 physical chemists, the idea was expressed of founding the Society of Physical Chemists of Serbia for gatherings of experts who deal with scientific, professional and educational activities in the field of physical chemistry and related scientific fields.

The Steering Committee has been established in April, 1989, who carried out all the preparations for the inaugural meeting and drafted the Statute of the Society.

Constituent Assembly was held in June, 1989, at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the Society is signed at the Register of the social organizations in August, same year.

Academician Milenko Šušić was elected for the first president of the Society, and he was in this position until 1995.

Today the Society of Physical chemists of Serbia has more than 600 members, mostly physical chemists, but also significant number and chemists, technologists, pharmacists and experts of similar profile.
